On the critically endangered list, the Hawksbill turtle is one of three turtle species found in Belize. There are only an estimated 15,000 female Hawksbills left in the world and the Naia team was privileged to catch a glimpse of a mature female laying her eggs on our beach. Having marked and monitored the spot, we returned to catch a glimpse of the babies as they made their treacherous return to the sea. As of September, 2018, there were around ten active or recently vacated turtle nests at Naïa.
